Expect The Unexpected

Hubby said to me today at around 1pm, we are going to have guest tonight. I said «¥^»[. It turned out that a rowing buddy whom he had only met two weeks ago, had lost his passport. He was stranded in Dublin airport with no money.

Much grouting later, guest arrived. He is an American living in Europe. Well, it turns out that his dad was a big political figure in Wisconsin, and served under Kennedy. Well now, how cool was that?  We still ended up talking about blonde jokes….

Lucky I have a turkey for tomorrow.

Please tell me that was a typo and you meant grousing..

    • No, I’m sure she meant grouting. Seems that must be what Irish folks do. Personally, I go and hide everything in closets or stuff ‘stuff’ in boxes and dump those behind a closed door. I think that’s what ‘muricans do. Is it the kitchen floor tiles she’s always regrouting for company, the backsplash behind the sink or the bathtub ??

Ha, there is a bed in what I call my “office.” Everything got dumped in there when I had my party a few weeks ago and I hadn’t dusted in there for a while… I found a box and just swept everything on the mantelpiece into it and hid it behind a door. We do it here too. 🙂

As a resident of Walkerstan, I mean Wisconsin, you’ve piqued my interest!

I think it’s Irish law you have to re-grout every time company comes! I hear it’s very damp in Ireland so maybe the mold grows overnight on the grout. Or…..she has a fetish. I throw things in the closet too….or leave get-well cards all over and tell them to excuse the mess, I have been sick!

We have had about 2 in of snow tonight! Woke up to water surrounding our house after 3 inches of rain. Have one tree that is bent over over and the leaves are touching the ground. Power on and off all night.. 5 tornadoes have touched down just east of us this afternoon. Happy Mother’s Day! We won’t be grilling tomorrow! May have 10 inches of snow by morning…..more than Aspen!

    • Wow, MrsGunka. For Mother’s Day I changed my FB to a picture of my grandmother/father in 1907 standing on the wooden step of their log cabin in the outer surroundings of Steamboat Springs where they both were raised. My greatgrandfather ‘Grouse Creek’ was in charge of the stage run over Yellowjacket Pass. The picture has them in sunshine with large shadows behind their backs. Huge icicles hang off one side of the roof with receding snow next to the cabin. There’s a partially open window, a shovel leaning against the front, a cat under the ‘porch’ and Grandma J dressed in a long short sleeved dress that is belted at the waist – – which I’m sure that she made. She was an incredible seamstress. My grandfather just looks grizzled. I don’t know who took the photo or why, but I’ve loved it for the hard life it represents, along with all of the weather idiosyncrasies in it. Happy Mothers Day to you. May the tornadoes stay far far away !

My husband thought the idea of the get-well cards was hilarious. 🙂

Well my visitor has gone. We had a great time chatting about politics and lots of other “stuff.” I saw his light on quite late last night and wondered why he was still awake. Imagine my delight this morning when he told me he had found the Geoffrey Dunn and Joe McGinniss books on Sarah Palin and proceeded to read a number of chapters. He was full of talk about her which was really funny because my husband goes into glazed-eye mode when I mention her. All in all, it was a fun weekend which I wasn’t expecting.
