On April 12, Freddie Gray, healthy and whole, was arrested by the Baltimore Police.
According to his family and attorney Billy Murphy, when Freddie arrived at the hospital he had three broken vertebrae, his spinal cord was severed 80 percent, his voice box damaged, and his brain was swollen.
The police thus far have refused to give any reasonable explanation of how Gray went from healthy to dead in their custody.
A bystander took this video as the police bundled Freddie Gray into the van.
I’m not a doctor (well I am actually – just not the medical sort), but I would hazard a guess that Freddie’s spine was already severed at that stage.
His legs are clearly not functioning.
And by the way, he had his spine broken because he ran. Well, if you were a black male in America, you probably wouldn’t hang around either. He hadn’t committed any offence.

“I know that when Mr. Gray was placed inside that van, he was able to talk and he was upset,” Baltimore Deputy Police Commissioner Jerry Rodriguez said at today’s news conference. “And when Mr. Gray was taken out of that van, he could not talk and he could not breathe.”
Gray did request medical attention, Rodriguez confirmed, but police are now trying to determine at what time. “I am deeply troubled by this,” Rodriguez said.

“What we don’t have at this point is how Mr. Gray sustained those injuries,” he said today, when an autopsy was being conducted.

The six officers involved are suspended with pay, as per policy, according to Police Commissioner Anthony Batts.

You may not be the medical sort of doctor but your conclusions are completely in line with those I know who are “that sort.” The legs are clearly not functioning as he is lifted and dragged to the police van.
