It is what it is. We’ll have to make our way somehow.
I don’t know how we do that but
    as a human being,
    as a mixed-blood melanin-enhanced American,
    as an elder over 60,
    as a woman,
    as a Jew,
    as a teacher and librarian,
I can not, I will not, let shock and fear trump the pursuit of justice and peace, of a better world.

    We live in interesting times.
    Yes. We. Live.

    L’Shalom y’all.

I don’t know, but millions of white folks cut off their noses just to stick it to the ni##ers, the uppity women, the Mexicans, the Muslims and all of “the Other”.

I think there’s a lot of truth in that. The biggest mistake the Democrats could make is to blame this squarely on Clinton. Yes she was carrying a lot of baggage but this is a huge protest vote stretching across a myriad of issues. They need to sit down and have a VERY hard think.

      • Scarsdale says:

What baggage was Hillary carrying, exactly? So, she had a private server, something Colin Powell and Condi Rice had too. in positions of power. Turns out some Congress people do, too. Bill’s transgressions cannot be forced onto Hillary. She held her head high, faced every inquisitor bravely, sat for 11 hours of questions by the dimwits on the “investigative panel” In other words, she was more of a MAN than whiny ass tRump will ever be. Now we have a former escort nude model as First “Lady”, an orange lump of DUMB as President. He is considering Guiliani as Atty. General, and Gingrich as Sec. of State. All three have had 3 wives!! He is stuck with them, since nobody of character wants to work for him.

American exceptionalism no longer exists; the dumbing down of the electorate has succeeded…

    American democracy is dead.

  4. Thank you ThatCrowman. This is a new reality that I’m finding it difficult to get my head around. I’ve had voter disappointment in my day, but I can’t even get myself to watch, listen to or read the news right now. The end of months and months of incredulity and contention has finalized and I don’t know what to even think about any of our nation’s systems of government. I think it’s going to be a very bumpy, hunkered down, ‘is it over yet,’ ride. That’s my optimistic outlook on this ‘did this just really happen’ Wednesday.

I think the pathway for me in the 4 years ahead is to just work within my local community on the social issues that need addressing , praying that a national campaign of hate and prejudice won’t really be put into action. Hoping this upcoming administration will be all talk and not so much of anything else.

Holy Moly – – I truly can’t believe we’ve come to this. May Hillary Clinton be safe in the weeks and months to come. I’m thinking I’ll be taking a hiatus from all of this for a bit. My disgust for Sarah Palin over the last 8 years has proven founded and I’m just ‘8 years’ weary to the bone. None of us were crazy when we viewed her as a dangerous imbecile.

Thanks for caring about us, IrishGirl. We are a resilient lot and will be able to weather the storm of whatever comes our way. Just very very sad that this is where we’ve fallen to at this point in time.

I think a lot of us have. I’ve always had an affection and respect for America and its people but it’s been shattered into a thousand pieces after yesterday. The ballot box has always been the traditional way to register a protest about grievances but it also carries a responsibility (I think) to think carefully about cause and effect. I can see no evidence of thought or sense of responsibility in what has happened, just a blind furious lashing out by the mob who don’t care who they flatten in the process. When they are standing teetering on the precipice and realize nothing has changed for them it will be too late for a wake up call, and quite frankly I don’t think they deserve one, but the people they’ve dragged over the cliff with them do.

    • I think you hit the nail on the head . . . Supporters have an expectation of change. I don’t see the positive change they think they’ll be getting happening. And then what? I still haven’t watched, listened to or read any news, so thinking ahead 4 years is a far far reach, but Democrats better be ready and have a serious slate of folks identified to provide legitimate, workable solutions to the national problems that we’ll be facing.

  6. Scarsdale says:

Most of the old crowd of gop obstructionists are still in office. McConnell, McCain, Cotton (who is eagerly encouraging the building of the wall), and some others who have done NOTHING but obstruct President Obama. Now they have the world’s biggest clown to “work with”. tRump and his sons, Uday and Qusay, along with daughter Olive Oyl will be busy making themselves richer and richer for the next 4 years. To HELL with the citizens of this country as far as the tRumps are concerned. The WH will be painted with gold leaf in every room. All dignity will be destroyed by these low class, low intelligence family of grifters.
