James Comey Just Made A Dog’s Dinner Of Clinton Email Investigation

What a mess. The newly discovered emails are all about how Huma Abedin managed her email accounts but the wording in Comey’s statement seems to implicate Hillary Clinton.

Courtesy of EuropeNewsweek:

The disclosure by the Federal Bureau of Investigation late on Friday, October 28 that it had discovered potential new evidence in its inquiry into Hillary Clinton’s handling of her personal email when she was Secretary of State has virtually nothing to do with any actions taken by the Democratic nominee, according to government records and an official with knowledge of the investigation, who spoke to Newsweek on condition of anonymity.

So let’s clear that up.

The truth is much less explosive. There is no indication the emails in question were withheld by Clinton during the investigation, the law enforcement official told Newsweek, nor does the discovery suggest she did anything illegal. Also, none of the emails were to or from Clinton, the official said.

So why on earth did Comey even go there?

Basically, Abedin found the procedures for printing documents to be cumbersome, so she circumvented it by using a shared computer (with Weiner).

This procedure for printing documents, the government official says, appears to be how the newly discovered emails ended up on the laptop shared by Abedin and her husband. It is unclear whether any of those documents were downloaded onto the laptop off of her personal email accounts or were saved on an external storage device, such as a flash drive, and then transferred to the shared computer. There is also evidence that the laptop was used to send emails from Abedin to Clinton; however, none of those emails are the ones being examined by the FBI. Moreover, unless she was told by Abedin in every instance, Clinton could not have known what device her aide was using to transmit electronic information to her…

If the documents were not classified, no crime was committed. But either way, this discovery has embarrassed Clinton, even though there is no evidence at this point suggesting she has been implicated in any potential wrongdoing.

Well, that’s nice to know, but the damage has been done now.

In a communication to bureau employees, Comey described his letter to Congress as an attempt to thread a needle – amend his testimony while not disclosing details of an ongoing investigation. The combination, however, created a circumstance where politicians are filling in the blanks, creating a storyline of corruption that was not justified by the evidence developed by the bureau. Making it worse, the communication to the bureau employees is far more detailed than what Comey issued to Congress.

So, in essence he made a dog’s dinner of it.

And what is worse is the fact that this stupidly worded letter to Congress could swing an election.

Resign now, Comey.

Word from inside @FBI. FURIOUS at Comey, think he’s mishandled public revelations from get go. “Outrageous incompetence” one agent told me.

    I’m all out of words.

Wonderful post, Irishgirl! This election is getting sadder and sadder and it is physically making me sick.

  3. Linda says:

Comey was played by Chaffetz, they were all prime and ready to go….reminds me of the Benghazi presser with Romney.

I hate Chaffetz, Issa, Gowdy, McConnell, Ryan, Cotton and the rest of those feckers.
I nearly forgot the two Scotts.

      Wisconsin Scott and Florida Scott.

I have a special sort of blech for them.

  4. I, too, appreciate your post. I’m swamped at work and clicked online yesterday during a very short break. The headline I saw gave my stomach a jolt and I quickly clicked out. Just couldn’t take it. It’s not that I can’t accept proven wrongdoing. It’s that I can’t accept the corruption of our political system. I’m experiencing it on the national, state and local level and it’s is beyond disheartening. The political machinery, who buys whom, and the underlying trickle down agendas that are revealed become overwhelming. I don’t know how we ever get back to a democracy that’s driven by the people and not some puppetmasters somewhere. – – sigh – –

We can see actual video of Trump bragging about grabbing women’s pussies — but negated by a nothing story about emails Hillary didn’t send.

We’re so far down the rabbit hole …..

The DOJ has brought a Complaint against Comey.

    From the Attorney General Memorandum
If you are faced with a question regarding the timing of charges or overt investigative steps near the time of a primary or general election, please contact the Public Integrity Section of the Criminal Division for further guidance.

The directives are worth reading. I see no wiggle room for Comey.
Law enforcement officers and prosecutors may never select the timing of investigative steps…for the purpose of affecting any election, or for the purpose of giving an advantage or disadvantage to any candidate or political party.

This man being Director of the FBI is quite terrifying. He cannot even interpret the law let alone administer it.

  8. 40Watt says:

    This is un-fecking-believable!

When FBI Director James Comey wrote his bombshell letter to Congress on Friday about newly discovered emails that were potentially “pertinent” to the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server, agents had not been able to review any of the material, because the bureau had not yet gotten a search warrant to read them, three government officials who have been briefed on the probe told Yahoo News.

  9. Moles says:

How does this make any sense when Coney is (or certainly was) on the board of the Clinton Foundation?

  10. irishgirl999 says:

Whoah. I had an early night and I wake up to this.

To say Brietbart is an unreliable (vile Right Wing) source is a major understatement.

Although the article from Breitbart (masters at using incomplete and misleading information to suggest improper financial ties and relationships where none exist) didn’t provide any “smoking gun” showing that Comey was personally involved with any of his previous employers’ doings with the Clintons’ charitable foundation, the story has been picked up and spread through the conservative blogosphere with headlines asserting Comey was essentially bribed to clear Clinton of criminal actions.

    Snopes calls this allegation UNPROVEN.

WHAT’S TRUE: FBI Director James Comey has worked for some organizations that have donated to or partnered with the Clinton Foundation.

WHAT’S FALSE: There’s no proof that Comey directly benefited from any of his employers’ relationships with the Clinton Foundation.

    • Moles says:

All true. The point I was trying to make (obviously badly) is that so much of this article is unproven, as is what Comey has just released on Clinton; against the advice of the Justice Department and taken without a warrant.
