‘We Got Played!’ CNN Reacts To Trump ‘Birther’ Troll Press Conference

Top CNN employees are frustrated. They breathlessly went live to Donald Trump’s news conference at his new hotel in Washington D.C., only to wait helplessly as veterans stood up to explain why they support Trump as commander-in-chief.

“It’s hard to imagine this as anything other than a political rick-roll,” anchor Jake Tapper said wryly as CNN cut away from the broadcast of the Trump event and asked him to comment.

The Trump campaign signaled that the Republican presidential nominee would address the birther controversy, but the first 20 minutes of the event featured veterans telling the media why they supported Trump.

CNN eventually cut away from the event – even as veterans continued to speak, as anchors griped that the event was not what they thought it was. But they were forced to return to Trump just minutes later as he made a short definitive statement that he believed that Obama was born in the United States.

“I really don’t quite know what to make of that except for that we got played again by the Trump campaign which is what they do,” said John King afterward, pointing out that Trump tricked them into covering a live event.

“We just got played. We just got played,” he repeated.

Marc Lamont Hill a host of BET News, called Trump’s stunt “repugnant.”

“Donald Trump has never give a speech this short before on any issue!” he said. “He talks for hours sometimes when it’s supposed to be five minutes.”

CNN’s Dana Bash admitted that CNN would have never aired Trump’s event if it knew about the structure of the event.

“What they did, was tease us that he was going to say something, then as John said, played us by making sure that everybody who has an ability to show Donald Trump actually took 20 minutes or got 20 minutes of very important decorated veterans praising somebody who they think should be the next commander-in-chief, which would not have been live on cable news otherwise,” she said.

The gang of deplorables at Brietbart think that this is hysterical.

Just maybe now the media will step up and do its job.

“Just maybe now the media will step up and do its job.”

This may finally be the start. The press is really fuming because reporters were not even allowed into the event – cameras only. The press pool collectively agreed to destroy all the footage of the new hotel tour – it will never air anywhere.

Trump said President Barack Obama was born in the United States and then immediately left the stage in the fashion of a true coward. Now, in any future interviews when Trump will inevitably be asked to clarify his remarks about the “birther” issue, he will say he has definitively addressed it and won’t be discussing it any further. Then he will condemn the press for their dogged pursuit of a non-issue when he wants to talk about jobs, terrorism, security, and making America great again.

It’s also worth noting that while Trump has admitted that President Obama was born in the United States, he didn’t disclaim his insinuation that the President is a muslim. In the last poll results that I could find in May of this year, 59% of Trump supporters believe the President was not born in the United States but more than half a basketful – 65% of them – still think he is a muslim. So, there’s still fodder for hate.

Gee whiz, media, stop covering tRump’s “events”! At least until he stops with promoting his businesses (and himself) and starts running a real presidential campaign (which will be never). Y’all should have enough sense and enough professional pride to realize that tRump is a showman, not a real presidential candidate. Quit pretending that he is a real presidential candidate! The next time he pulls a stunt like this, report it, but don’t cover it, or don’t report it at all. You won’t miss a big story, or even a little one. What you will miss is being played again.

tRump ain’t too bright, so what does that say about the media that continues to fall for his cons?

If the press ignored him totally, he’d sink like a stone; and while I’m at it here’s my bucket list for debate moderators: Rachel Maddow, Keith Olbermann and Joy Reid.
That should wreak havoc with the spray tan.
