When It Is Ok To Be Jewish – And When It Is Used To Destroy You – The GOP Way

mean_girlCourtesy of Salon back in 2008:

Before Sarah Palin decided to run for the Wasilla mayor’s office in 1996 against incumbent John Stein, the Palins and Steins were friends. John Stein had helped launch Palin’s political career, mentoring the hockey mom during her 1994 run for City Council, along with veteran council member Nick Carney. Stein’s wife, Karen Marie, went to aerobics classes with Palin.

But when she announced her candidacy for Stein’s seat, vowing to overturn the city’s “old boy” establishment, a different Sarah Palin emerged. “Things got very ugly,” recalled Naomi Tigner, a friend of the Steins. “Sarah became very mean-spirited.”

…Even though Palin knew that Stein is a Protestant Christian, from a Pennsylvania Dutch background, her campaign began circulating the word that she would be “Wasilla’s first Christian mayor.” Some of Stein’s supporters interpreted this as an attempt to portray Stein as Jewish in the heavily evangelical community. Stein himself, an eminently reasonable and reflective man, thinks “they were redefining Christianity to mean born-agains.”

Oh no they weren’t John Stein. They were insinuating that you were Jewish and that that was a bad, bad thing. You weren’t a Christian like them.

Fast forward to Palin’s visit to Israel.I hope neither one of them had halitosis.

All of a sudden, Palin is embracing her Jewishness. But it was ok to use it as a slur when she wanted John Stein out of the picture.

You see, I got the mistaken impression that the GOP loved Israel. Having witnessed the longest blow job given to a Jewish man  in quite a while when the Yahoo gave his war-mongering speech in Congress, this little item perplexes me.

Fitz, an assistant to former U.S. Sen. John Danforth (R-MO), detailed in a written statement the shocking sequence of events from that morning, which was reported by the Associated Press on Thursday.

The account details just how troubled Schweich was by rumors he believed were being spread about his religion on the day he took his own life. Schweich had been telling people that he believed Missouri Republican Party Chairman John Hancock had been engaging in an anti-Semitic whisper campaign, allegedly telling people Schweich was Jewish to damage his candidacy among Christian voters. In the aftermath of the suicide, Hancock has faced mounting calls for his resignation over the allegations.

Now just why is it that the GOP are jumping up and giving Bibi a standing ovation, but yet they try to ruin their own GOP opposition by insinuating they are Jewish?

You have gotta love their retarded logic.

There is an interesting article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch written by a reporter and a friend of Tom Schweich. I must admit, I find the reason given for his suicide hard to swallow. On the other hand, there is this –

Missouri is the state that gave us Frazier Glenn Miller, the raging racist who last year killed three people at a Jewish community center in Kansas City. It’s the state in which on the day before Schweich died, the Anti-Defamation League reported on a rise of white supremacist prison gangs in the state.

Division over race and creed is real in Missouri Republican politics, particularly in some rural areas. Schweich knew it. http://tinyurl.com/oadphvu

As to the main point of your post, I think it’s all about context, at least for the born-again crowd. Israel plays a vital part in the story of the end times and, in that respect, Jews are people of value. In daily life however, well, I mean Jews aren’t Christians are they? In fact, isn’t the phenomenon of Jews having an en masse come-to-Jesus moment integral to the story of the rapture?

Setting magical thinking aside, the Bibi lovers tend not to have a clue about Israel. They talk as though it is a country populated by people who are all religious Jews. They seem unaware that the Israel of 1948 was founded as a secular state with a constitutional right to freedom of religion.

The friends we have in Israel include Orthodox Jews, “mainline” (for want of a better name) Jews, non-religious Jews, and a couple of political Zionists who are not religious, and Arabs and that covers only some of the disparate ways of being an Israeli citizen.

In other words, for many of the Bibi lovers, and their “retarded logic” all I can say is the ability to be logical is predicated on knowledge, understanding and what’s the third one? …. oh yes, not being retarded. 😉

It is Netanyahu’s habit every few years to hop on a plane to another country and try to wow
them with what Rachel Maddow calls “His end of the world” speech. Unfortunately he’s done it so often that it no longer has much impact.

I believe there was more to the suicide too. But that is all we’re hearing at this stage.
    As always, love your comments.

  4. lindak1961 says:

I won’t comment on the suicide, as while I’ve heard about it, I haven’t read much about it.

As for Palin’s actions – she does whatever it takes to “win.” She may buy into the End Times crap that too many evangelical Christians believe, hence her support for Israel, but she wouldn’t be so vocal about it weren’t so profitable.

As history has proven over and over, Palin will do and say anything, lie or not, if there is money in it for her. “What’s in it for us?” This Jewish thing with Sarah and the religious right obsession is a total mystery to me. It’s like they are loving them to death for their own benefit???? Way over my pay grade. Is this an Adelson/Koch show down over the Middle east? I don’t know which side of the political fence Adelson is in Israel but Koch’s are on the Evangelicals/teabagger here or anyone who will buy into his scheme of taking over our country. I haven’t been able to get much of this straight in my mind. Is it a Jewish/Iran side against Koch/oil take-over? Help? But it doesn’t make sense. Sarah is just a puppet for the highest money. I’m sure she doesn’t have a clue either…..just pay me and I’ll say anything.

I’m glad your back is better, but take it easy. Those little disks between the vertebrae don’t like to be tweaked!

IrishGirl has the back problems, Mrs G.

For evangelicals, they are on the side that will bring on the apocalypse. For Adelson and the Kochs, they are on the side that will bring them power.

      • irishgirl999 says:

Prof. Canine had a link a week or so ago showing Adelson pouring money into a free far-right Jewish newspaper!

Succinct and on the mark. 😀

    • MrsGunka says:

Are you saying that Adelson and Koch are on Netanyahoo’s side….bomb Iran? Wouldn’t that be for their oil more than the end of the world? Sorry – just don’t understand the Israeli system of government and who is for what. Realize they don’t want Iran to have nuclear power to wipe out Israel. Is Israel ready to give up their nukes if Iran does? Wasn’t Adelson interested in setting up gambling casinos in Israel?

  7. Cole says:

Those Republicans don’t give a damn about Jews as long as they give them cash.
