Cody Saltsman And The Steubenville Rape Crew

EXCLUSIVE: High school footballer star apologizes for posting sickening picture of Ohio rape victim – but denies claims assault was revenge for being slighted by girl, 16

  • Big Red Football star player, Cody Saltsman, 17, publicly said he regrets posting Instagram image that has come to define the case
  • Steubenville High School student was present at earlier parties on night alleged rape took place and also called her ‘sloppy’
  • Parents fought legal battle against claims made on internet that he wanted revenge and that he sent a message to victim’s father calling her a ‘whore’
  • Mother says he is an ‘awesome kid’
Saltsman’s apology, which he repeated on his Twitter account, comes as part of a legal settlement in a case brought by his family against investigative blogger and local campaigner, Alexandria Goddard and 25 John Does who had posted on her site.

Goddard has been key in highlighting the Steubenville case that has horrified America.

The Saltsmans had sought to remove claims linking their son to the events of the night from Goddard’s website.

Several posts berate him for his actions and others claim that the alleged rape was Saltsman’s act of revenge over a personal slight – planned by the footballer and carried out by his friends.

article-0-16E13308000005DC-239_634x172One post from a user ‘mammabear’, which featured in the lawsuit, reads: ‘The plan began. Your friend will pretend to like her. You will have her bring him to the party where she can be… kidnapped, raped, sodomized, defecated on, photographed, videoed, HUMILIATED publicly OVER and OVER again.

‘You send her father a photograph of YOUR planned revenge and call his daughter a whore…call her sloppy.’

This guy deserves all the attention coming his way. He has not been charged with anything!

He apologizes for posting the picture, but not for what he had done to her, for sending her father a picture and calling her a whore and sloppy. Nope, not nearly enough to get his sorry ass off the hook for this horrific crime.

Yes, there are sloppy people and whores involved in this case, but it isn’t the 16 year old girl who was assaulted and humiliated. It was those who planned and participated in the crime, as well as those who have tried to cover it up.

On second thought, it’s an insult to whores and sloppy people to compare them to the criminals who carried out this crime.

The only good thing in this is that the case against blogger Alexandria Goddard is dismissed and cannot be brought again.

On behalf of myself and the John Doe defendants, we are very pleased to announce that the defamation lawsuit filed against us has been dismissed with prejudice. Dismissals with prejudice mean that this case can never be refiled again and this lawsuit is officially over. On December 20th, the plaintiffs approached us about settling this case, and we were quite happy to oblige. Lawsuits are costly and very stressful, and this suit has taken a toll on all involved. As part of the settlement we did not pay any money; we did not agree to retract any statements, nor did we agree to stop covering the case or discussing it.

    Note the last sentence.

Hats off to the lawyers who worked pro bono to bring about this very good result.

  3. These “boys” careers should be ended right now. No scholarships to prestigious colleges – no further football. No competition, no nothing. When you commit crimes, you pay a price. Theirs should be their futures.
Although their actions were reprehensible to begin with, the fact is they are going to apparently get away with this….at the very least they should pay some price.

Cody Saltsman is not sorry- if he was then why did it take 4 months to apologize. He sorry he got caught! His mom must be sooooo proud of her boy! He publicly threatens the victim and then has his football friends “rape crew” rape her and then he runs to mommy and daddy crying- I didn’t do anything mommy and daddy! I am innocent.?! Justice will prevail for Cody Saltsman – he can only lie for so long!

  4. Truth Hurts says:

I thought i read somewhere that the prosecution is waiting to get Cody Saltsman and other rape crew members who werent arrested yet.

It is a felony to witness a crime and not report it. (Ohio Revised Code Section 2921.22-Failure to Report a Crime)

The longer these guys go free-the longer the outrage will be. No one will ever forget Cody Saltsman and his “rape crew” Anonymous will see to that.

Send every one of these boys up to Texas and let us show them how we treat ignorant animals who think the rape and torment of this young woman was something to laugh about! Here in Texas, we love our football as much as we do Grandma’s warm pecan pie and we wouldn’t tolerate this behavior from any of our players! Personally, if they want to act like animals they need to be castrated like the animals they are!

I am sick to know that all the parties involved in that awful act of drugging and raping that poor girl. I read a lot of the information that those rapists themselves posted and it seems that she was raped by no less than 9 monsters. All who watched should also be held accountable because in the majority of states, Ohio included, it is against the law to witness a crime and not report it. I HOPE ALL THOSE DOGS WHO TOOK PART EVEN WITH THEIR PRESENCE ROT IN HELL.

It’s interesting that Ma’lik’s dad was just interviewed and he said his son got caught up in a “love triangle.” That seems to confirm that Cody Saltsman was involved somehow in setting up this horrific chain of events. Really hope that they go after and prosecute him soon, despite the attempts by his corrupt and influential parents to try to get him off the hook. They’re used to doing bad things and getting away with them.

Another poster has written he had known the Saltsmans and said they were scum. Cody’s aunt has been posting drunken, profanity laden rants online defending him. Sadly, his whole family seems like horrible people and they brought him up to be a menace to society. Ma’lik actually doesn’t seem to be a bad kid but he did get manipulated by Cody into doing horrible things. He should have testified against Cody and gotten a plea deal. Bring down the mastermind, not the pawns.

What really disturbs me though, is the number of other girls lashing out at the victim with tweets, etc. explaining their lack of sympathy with some form of: “If you’re that drunk at a party, then you get what you deserve.” It’s clearly out of fear and insecurity, though – we tell ourselves, something like this would never happen to me because I make it a point to not get THAT inebriated. But what is even MORE disturbing – this girl was set-up by one of her girlfriends and her ex-boyfriend’s close friend (i.e. people she trusted). Furthermore, it is VERY difficult – I would even go so far as to say it is impossible – to become so drunk that for several hours (the night of dragging this girl from party to party totaled about 12 hours, allegedly) she would not wake-up during many of the acts performed on her, unless she was drugged, as well.

And still, there are girls who are making the victim feel as if this is her fault! Are we really made to feel THIS guilty about our own bodies?! “Women’s Liberation”!? Pfffft… Clearly, we’re still brainwashed from a young age to believe that our bodies are only our own so long as we remain conscious – even if we believe we are with friends whom we can trust (not to mention the brainwashing dedicated to making us feel as if our bodies are only valuable so long as men like them).

Boys in high school and college who frequent binge-drinking parties often get EXTREMELY intoxicated. When men pass out at parties, other people traditionally draw pornographic material on the unconscious man’s face. If people started sodomizing and urinating on him, though, do you think people would be tweeting: “Sucks for you, bro – shouldn’t have gotten that wasted at a party.” NO.

And for people who try to justify the initial lack of media attention on this case and the sympathy expressed by CNN and the public for Mays and Richmond, before extensive nude photos and the horrific video of Michael Nodianos were finally released, by saying something like: Hey, there are a lot of rape cases where women are lying. I would say to you: Shut your mouth. There are a lot of people mistakenly accused of murder – sometimes they’re set free, other times they’re not. But we don’t hear about homicides and say, Well, whomever they convict, I empathize with them, because there are a lot of times where people are improperly accused of homicide!!

The reason that men get sympathy in cases like this is NOT because of such a great fear of them being wrongly accused – especially in a case like this, where the kids aren’t professional players with lots of money, and the thought of a rape would bring a LOT of shame to the girl and her family (so what incentive would she have to lie about something like this!?). It’s because, simply put, a lot of people – both women and men – still think that there is a LEGITIMATE “gray area” for rape – as in, a rape isn’t truly ‘rape’ if the girl gets too wasted on her own to “consent” (or not consent, for that matter). Which is foul. And any woman who actually agrees with such a mentality is even more foul, because we should know better.

At the very least, I hope to see a change in the mentalities of women over the coming years, where at least WE no longer feel so guilty and shameful about ourselves that we can’t show sympathy for a young girl who has had these horrible things done to her – before she has even reached adulthood. Her life will be forever changed by this; it is certainly more than just that those boys’ lives be changed, too.

Subject: Possible Child Sex Offender Tip

N.B.: This tip was previously submitted via your web-form; however, I did not receive any type of confirmation that the tip had been accepted, thus this email.

    Subject: Sex offender leads

    Nature of Concern/Inquiry:

This message is with respect to a potential sex offender. The person I am concerned with is one Cody Saltsman, of Steubenville, Ohio.

Saltsman was most recently caught-up in the Steubenville rape case, involving the young victim from Weirton, West Virginia, wherein defendants Trent Mays and Ma’Lik Richmond were found delinquent on March 17, 2013 by Judge Thomas Lipps in Steubenville Juvenile Court.

Mr. Saltsman is the former boyfriend of the girl that was raped. In sworn testimony (cellphone text messages) read aloud in court by JoAnn Gibb, a forensic examiner with the BCI, one message in particular stands out: a message from Cody Saltsman to the now-convicted Trent Mays, and Mays’ response:

“Cody Saltsman: I wanna see the vid of u hitting her with your weiner.”
“Trent Mays: I don’t know who took it lol.”

As already stated, Cody Saltsman is the ex-boyfriend of the rape victim. As such, Mr. Saltsman could hardly fail to be aware of her age (16 years old); therefore he knew with certainty that she is a minor.

Now, it should be clear that Mr. Saltsman was also indisputably aware of the nature of the aforementioned video, due to his description of it in his communication with Trent Mays. His text message leaves no room for doubt in that regard.

So, therefore, Mr. Saltsman was soliciting a copy of a video knowing full-well that it contained explicit sexual activity involving actual, identifiable, minors (both Trent Mays and the rape victim are minors.)

Such activity is covered by Federal statute: USC Title 18 Part I Chapter 110 § 2252A

18 USC § 2252A – Certain activities relating to material constituting or containing child pornography

    (a) Any person who–

    (3) knowingly–

    (B) […] solicits through the mails, or using any means or facility of interstate or foreign commerce or in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce by any means, including by computer, any material or purported material in a manner that reflects the belief, or that is intended to cause another to believe, that the material or purported material is, or contains–

    (i) an obscene visual depiction of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct; or

    (ii) a visual depiction of an actual minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct;

Soliciting of this nature is also an offence under the Ohio Revised Code:

2907.322 Pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor.

    (A) No person, with knowledge of the character of the material or performance involved, shall do any of the following:

    (5) Knowingly solicit, receive, purchase, exchange, possess, or control any material that shows a minor participating or engaging in sexual activity, masturbation, or bestiality;

    (C) Whoever violates this section is guilty of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor. Violation of division (A)(1), (2), (3), (4), or (6) of this section is a felony of the second degree. Violation of division (A)(5) of this section is a felony of the fourth degree. If the offender previously has been convicted of or pleaded guilty to a violation of this section or section 2907.321 or 2907.323 of the Revised Code, pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor in violation of division (A)(5) of this section is a felony of the third degree.

Given the evidence already unearthed by the BCI, and testified to under oath in an Ohio court, Cody Saltsman should be investigated and prosecuted for pandering or solicitation of child pornography under either Ohio or Federal law.

  11. Andrew Plummer says:

I want to ask all on the rape crew a question. A lot of comments blame the victim. At a party would you carry your sister’s comatose body from site to site and help her get assaulted? Is your behavior some new code of manly integrity. God help us all. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”
